E-Waste Solutions
Do you have E-Waste that you would like to safely dispose of?
At The Right Click we aim to reduce our impact on the environment from the technology we utilise and trade. As an ideal we would like to return all obsolete, non-working, defunct hardware back to the recycle plants – as you can imagine this is extremely difficult to achieve. So we have started by educating you and providing a drop off / collection point for you to correctly dispose of your E-Waste.
E-Waste is anything that works from a power source: ie. direct Eskom power, batteries, solar, dynamo.
Electronic Waste or otherwise known as Computer Scrap or Electronic Junk. There are many variations but all point to the same.
Refer to the National Environmental Management Act 1998 and National Environmental Management: Waste Act 2008. Failure to comply with the Waste Act could result in a R10 Million fine, jail time or both.
The Right Click Computers is an affiliated collection point for Desco Electronic Recyclers who safely dismantle, sort and dispose of the waste.
Feel free to drop off your E-waste at our office or call us to arrange collection*.
Data is destroyed by permanently damaging any storage drive.*
COMMON TYPES OF E-WASTE
Typically your larger household appliances. For example refrigerators, washing machines, dryers etc.
Small Household Appliances that are no longer functioning. Items are vacuum cleaners, irons, blenders, fryers and the likes.
Your typical computer and associated telecommunications devices, now defunct. Laptops, PCs, telephones, mobile phones etc.
How is e waste affecting our environment?
The impact that E-WASTE has on the environment is remarkably harmful.
The processes of dismantling and disposing of electronic waste in the third world lead to a number of environmental impacts. Liquid and atmospheric releases end up in bodies of water, groundwater, soil, and air and therefore in land and sea animals – both domesticated and wild, in crops eaten by both animals and human, and in drinking water.
One study of environmental effects in Guiyu, China found the following:
Airborne dioxins – one type found at 100 times levels previously measured.
Levels of carcinogens in duck ponds and rice paddies exceeded international standards for agricultural areas.
Cadmium, copper, nickel, and lead levels in rice paddies were above international standards.
Heavy metals found in road dust – lead over 300 times that of a control village’s road dust and copper over 100 times.
